Sewing Chair Before & After

The Craft Room

After way too long of a wait I have finally started on organizing and moving into my craft room. My friends at work keep telling me (and I know that they are right) that this should have been the 1st room on my list.I'm on vacation this week and look forward to finishing a few projects - the craft room being the number one priority.
Well, I started a bit of organization and got some boxes unpacked then the bug hit me and I had to do something more creative, so I recovered my sewing chair.

This was much easier and quicker than I thought it would be. I simply made an envelope pillow to cover the backrest and stapled and trimmed the seat fabric. It only took 35-40 minutes will add a lot of fun to the late 60's theme for this room.

Go to go for now - crafting awaits!

Garden Update

Wow! It's been a busy two months!

Sometimes life gets in the way of living and that has been the way with me the past two months. Now it's time to get back to the good stuff.

When we last left the herb garden our hero had just finished building the stair-planter...

I took my parents old white bench and turned it bright blue. I planned to use this on my porch - and still will during the winter months. I painted it with a chalk paint (Plaid's Cascade from Joann Fabrics) planning on distressing it but decided I liked the blue enough as it is to keep it solid. I wish I had made this decision before painting. I would have sanded and prepared the bench beforehand. One of the great things about distressed items with chalk paint is that you don't have to do all the sanding and priming required with other paints.
Instead of using a wax to seal the bench, I decided to use polyurethane so that I could use it outside. The color went well with the Watermelon I used on the stairs.

Then I went crazy for with the Krylon Maxx paints. I brought more color in with my sister's shepherd's hook painted an Bauhaus Gold and I stole an old white hanging basket that my mother had behind her shed and painted it Rich Plum.

I picked up a green chair from Kroger's and got a steal on an outdoor rug from Home Depot - less than $25 delivered. They are lightweight outdoor rugs, but I planned on having the bench, flower pots and chair holding it down so it works fine for my use. It grounds the bright colors and let's them pop without being obnoxious. At least in my opinion.

One last task is to make a pillow. I picked up the outdoor fabric and an outdoor pillow form from JoAnn's and will be adding that very soon.

Herb Garden

Here is my new Herb Garden
Stairway to Culinary Delights

Here is my first project of the Spring!

I started with a couple treated stair stringers, like you would use for a deck staircase, added some 1x4s that were left over from making the microwave cart and a piece of sturdy lattice. Once everything is complete I will plant herbs on the steps and pole beans or cucumbers or some other vining veggie in the ground next to the lattice work.
After assembly I painted the unit with outdoor paint and put four 2' wide planter boxes. These boxes did not have any holes in the bottom and I wanted good drainage since most of the herbs I will be growing need to be a bit on the dry side. (Rosemary, Thyme, etc.)  Parsley and sage may come later. I drilled several holes in the bottom of the plant boxes and also into the 1x4 "steps" so that water doesn't build up between the plastic boxes and the steps. I plan on stealing several cobblestones from my father's back yard to lift the unit off the grass or concrete so that water doesn't puddle around the wood basses.

I even added a small gnome garden. My sister gave me this small garbage can several years ago and I am finally finding a great use for it. I drilled holes in the bottom of the can for drainage. I think the Dusty Miller and the Allysum look great in the miniature garden.

In the back yard I have some bulbs that I planted last year - the Daffodils and Hyacinths are doing well.

Can you guess what
my first project of the
Spring will be?

On the left are some of the items that will be used for this first project of Spring. Make you guess now in the comments area as to what you think this will be.

First bloom at my new place!
Last year I moved in just in time to plant a few bulbs. The first daffodil bloomed yesterday and the tulips, and hyacinths are coming along well. They should be blooming in the next few weeks. I also transplanted some of Mom's spiderwort. I hope it recuperates.

Easter Bling

Happy Easter!

Here is a photo of my Easter basket for my parents. This year I painted gold eggs with some glue on rhinestones.

Underneath the paper grass there are Reese's peanut butter eggs (yum!) for Dad and black jellybeans (yuck!) for Mom. There is also a bottle of Muttstard (turkey flavored syrup to put on dog food - again yuck!) for the two new additions to the family.

I used Wilton Colormist spray to color the eggs and some self-stick rhinestones to trim them out. The paper coiled carrots, paper grass and basket were all things I picked up at JoAnn Fabrics.

Have a Great Easter everyone!

Thank you!

Thank you all so much! I hit 300 views today. That is a huge number in general blog life, but I'm surprised my little blog is getting any notice at all, and I thank you all for visiting.

Let me know what you are up to. I want to share items from all my creative contacts. Tell me in the comments area or send me photos, etc. Hope to hear from you soon!

Feel free to share this blog with your friends.

By the way - w just got hit with an ice storm last night, but will be thawing out soon. The 10-day forecast calls for some days in the 50's - haven't seen that in this area for a while.
